What Medialake records about the state of a published organic post, how that becomes the status you see, and what each platform reports.
The four fields
Availability records whether Medialake can still load the post from the platform's API at all. It has two values:
Value | Meaning |
Available | The platform returned the post when we last checked. |
Unavailable | The platform no longer returns it. |
The other three fields describe a post that is available. Each uses a shared set of values, and each platform maps its own fields into them differently, so the exact meaning depends on the platform.
Audience records who the platform says can see the post:
Value | Meaning |
| The platform reports the post as visible to everyone. |
| Reachable by anyone with the direct link, but hidden from search and from the profile or channel. |
| Restricted to the account owner. |
| Restricted to a specific audience, such as connections or a custom list. |
| The platform reports an audience, but did not give a usable answer for this post. |
| The platform has no audience information at all. |
Lifecycle records where the post is in its publishing life:
Value | Meaning |
| The post is published. |
| Taken back to draft, or scheduled for a future date. |
| Still being uploaded or published. |
| The upload never completed or was rejected by the platform. |
| The platform reports the post as expired. |
| The platform reports the post as deleted. |
| The platform reports a lifecycle, but did not give a usable answer for this post. |
| The platform has no lifecycle information at all. |
Reach records whether the post has been paid to reach more people:
Value | Meaning |
| Organic only. |
| An organic post that has also been promoted. |
| Created as an ad rather than as an organic post. |
| The platform reports promotion, but did not give a usable answer for this post. |
| The platform has no promotion information at all. |
UNKNOWN and NOT_SUPPORTED are deliberately different. NOT_SUPPORTED means the platform can never tell us, so Medialake ignores the field when deciding whether a post is live. UNKNOWN means we expected an answer and did not get one, so the post stays unconfirmed. When a post becomes unavailable, all three fields are reset to UNKNOWN.
How the status is shown
Medialake reduces these fields to one status, shown on the asset page, in search results, in the music tracks table and in CSV exports:
Status | When it applies |
Live | The post is available, the audience is |
Taken down | The post is unavailable, or its lifecycle is |
Not public | The post is up but its audience is |
Unconfirmed | The lifecycle is |
The asset page also lists the audience, lifecycle and reach individually. A field the platform cannot provide is shown as Not supported by integration.
Medialake reads the post's privacy, publishing flags and hidden flag:
Platform reports | Medialake records |
| Audience |
| Audience |
| Audience |
| Lifecycle |
| Lifecycle |
| Lifecycle |
| Hidden from page |
A post hidden from the page keeps its public audience, but is shown as Not public because visitors to the page cannot see it. Facebook reports nothing about promotion, so reach is NOT_SUPPORTED.
The Instagram API reports no audience, lifecycle or promotion fields, so all three are NOT_SUPPORTED and the only signal is whether the post is returned:
Platform response | Medialake records |
The post is returned | Available, shown as Live |
The post is not returned | Unavailable, shown as Taken down |
Archiving a post, whether a feed post or a reel, stops Instagram returning it, so an archived post is recorded as unavailable.
YouTube
Medialake reads the privacy and upload status YouTube returns for each video:
Platform reports | Medialake records |
Privacy is | Audience |
Privacy is | Audience |
Privacy is | Audience |
Upload status is | Lifecycle |
Upload status is | Lifecycle |
Scheduled to publish in the future | Lifecycle |
Upload status is | Lifecycle |
Upload status is | Lifecycle |
An unlisted video does not appear in YouTube search, on the channel page, or in recommendations, but anyone with the link can still watch it. YouTube reports nothing about promotion, so reach is NOT_SUPPORTED.
TikTok
The TikTok API only returns videos that are publicly visible, so a returned video is recorded as audience PUBLIC and lifecycle PUBLISHED, inferred from the API rather than read from explicit fields:
Privacy setting on TikTok | Medialake records |
Public | Available, |
Friends only | Available, |
Only me | Unavailable |
Deleted | Unavailable |
TikTok stops returning a video set to Only me or deleted, but keeps returning one set to Friends only, so a Friends-only video cannot be told apart from a public one. TikTok reports nothing about promotion, so reach is NOT_SUPPORTED.
Medialake reads the post's visibility, lifecycle state and ad context:
Platform reports | Medialake records |
Visibility is | Audience |
Visibility is | Audience |
Lifecycle state is | Lifecycle |
Lifecycle state is | Lifecycle |
Lifecycle state is | Lifecycle |
Lifecycle state is | Lifecycle |
Lifecycle state is | Lifecycle |
Direct sponsored content | Reach |
LOGGED_IN means anyone with a LinkedIn account can see the post, which Medialake treats as public. LinkedIn only tells us when a post is direct sponsored content, so an ordinary post's reach is UNKNOWN rather than NONE.
Medialake reads the pin itself and the privacy of the board it sits on:
Platform reports | Medialake records |
Board privacy is | Audience |
Board privacy is | Audience |
The pin is an ad-only pin | Audience |
The pin is an ad-only pin | Reach |
The pin has been promoted | Reach |
The pin has not been promoted | Reach |
Pinterest reports nothing about a pin's publishing state, so lifecycle is NOT_SUPPORTED.
